The Issue

I am just as alive and conscious as any other living creature. These are the words ground squirrels cannot say, but they resonate deeply in my heart. It's personally distressing to me that in Winnipeg, there are plans to kill ground squirrels inhumanely. These beings have lives too, so why should they be treated differently and killed?

Ground squirrels play a crucial role in our ecological system. They help aerate the soil with their burrowing habits, which promotes plant growth. They also serve as a food source to many predators, and their burrows offer a refuge for many animals (University of Michigan's Animal Diversity Web). Taking these creatures out of existence in an inhumane way has both ethical and ecological implications.

I urge all citizens, environmental organizations, and animal rights activists to raise their voice against this inhumane solution. An alternative solution is to use humane methods to control the ground squirrel population, or better yet, to coexist with these animals in a way that's respectful to their lives and roles they play in our ecosystem.

Please sign this petition to demand Winnipeg to reconsider their plan and to implement humane, ethical, and environmentally friendly solutions that champion life and biodiversity.
