Introduce a Price Cap on Disposable Period Products

The Issue

Disposable period products are priced unreasonably high. It is estimated that in Canada, people who menstruate spend up to $6000 in their lifetime specifically on sanitary products. Up until July 1st, 2015, Canada even had a 5% GST Luxury Item tax on period products. Only then were they considered ‘essential items’. It has also been estimated that it now only costs around 18 cents to make certain sanitary products, such as pads and tampons. Companies are profiting by menstruators paying the astronomical retail prices of such items. Therefore, we would like the government to impose a price ceiling and keep the cost of sanitary products reasonable and affordable.
