Stop the Implementation of New P Plate Laws in NSW

The issue

The proposed changes to the P plate regulations in New South Wales, scheduled for August 2025, are deeply concerning for many young drivers, including myself. The freedom and independence we gain when we receive our provisional licenses are invaluable, and these new laws threaten to restrict that.

As a young driver, being on P plates is more than just a status; it represents a crucial stepping stone towards achieving full driving confidence. Limiting our freedom with additional restrictions means cutting short our opportunity to grow and learn in a real-world context. These new regulations propose stricter limitations and conditions that go beyond ensuring safety, verging instead on unnecessarily punitive measures.

Statistics have shown that imposing overly restrictive laws can have the opposite effect on safety. For instance, in jurisdictions with similar laws, there was no significant reduction in road accidents, but rather an increase in driving-related anxiety among young drivers. This does not solve the problem but could potentially create new ones.

Join me in urging the authorities to reconsider these changes. Sign this petition to ensure that our roads become safer through education and empowerment, not through unnecessary restrictions.
