The open comment period to give input on the proposed shelter location ends tomorrow on January 31st, 2023. Please consider sending a brief e-mail to bcc@clackamas.us urging the commissioners to change the shelter location away from an elementary school, residence and multiple thriving businesses.

Here is a sample e-mail that you can modify and send:

Dear Clackamas County Board of Commissioners,

I'm a resident of Clackamas County and I write to you in opposition of repurposing the Quality Inn at 9717 SE Sunnyside Rd, Clackamas OR into a transitional housing / homeless shelter.

The proposed location is near an elementary school, a residential area and a thriving business district. Placing the facility here would negatively affect the students, residents and business owners as they would face the prospects of
heightened crime, open drug use, loitering, vandalism and littering. 

Simply having a homeless shelter near businesses can create an uneasy feeling among customers and may cause them to avoid shopping or visiting these establishments. This could lead to lost revenue and could even force some businesses to close.

I urge you to please find a more suitable location that will not risk the well being of our students, residents and businesses.
