Teach You Children To Be Money Smart
Children often see adults exchange coins and bills when they buy things. As children grow and start to make choices, they learn that people, things, and money have value. These concepts form the foundation for understanding the importance of spending, sharing, and saving.
However, Black Americans have some of the biggest financial challenges. For example:
- Black students have lower levels of access to financial education.
- Black households make less money than their white peers.
- Black Americans have higher debt levels and often pay more interest on those debts.
- Black families are less likely to own homes—a significant source of wealth generation.
- Black Americans are less likely to participate in the stock market.
One way to provide a better foundation for Black children is to teach them about some of the basic tenets related to money. The link below provides a resource that parents can use to help teach their children about money.
