The Issue

Recently, news has emerged about a proposed development of 100 houses on Tongfield, a project that threatens the very fabric of our close-knit community. This issue resonates deeply with me as I, like many others in our area, will be directly affected by the increased pressure on our local infrastructure that this project is likely to bring.

Tongfield is one of the very few greens spaces we have left in Bromley Cross and is essential in maintaining our local wildlife/insect population. The addition of such a large housing development would not only disrupt our day-to-day lives but would also lead to an overwhelming increase in traffic. This is particularly concerning given our already congested roads. Additionally, the demands on local services, including our overburdened GPs and schools, would put even greater pressure on services that are already at an unmanageable level.

In recent years, Bromley Cross has seen a gradual increase in development, stretching resources further each time. Tongfield is particularly important to our community as it is one of the few remaining green spaces. Losing it to yet another housing project would be a great loss, not only to those of us who live here now and use it for walks to improve our physical health and mental wellbeing, but to future generations who will never know how lovely this green space is.

Statistics show that areas experiencing rapid urbanisation often suffer from decreased quality of life, increased pollution, and a tangible loss of community spirit. Bromley Cross is currently at risk of succumbing to such consequences if this development proceeds as planned.

We urge the local council and developers to reconsider their plans for Tongfield. There are alternative sites that could be explored which wouldn’t have the same detrimental impact on our community and its infrastructure. Preserving Tongfield as a green space would be an investment in the future well-being of Bromley Cross residents.

Please join me in safeguarding the unique charm and livability of our village by signing this petition. Together, we can make our voices heard and protect the interests of our community! Sign this petition now to stop the housing development in Tongfield.
