STOP THE HEWA IN EWA!!

The Issue

We THE organization of Aboriginal Kanaka Maoli, Native Hawaiians, Hawaiian Nationals, Ewa residents,  Lineal/ Cultural descendants of Ewa/ O’ahu/ Hawaii The protectors of the native elements known as Na Kiai O Wai Ha are demanding that NO CONSTRUCTION/ DEVELOPMENT OF THE HONOKEA SURF VILLAGE should proceed.

The cave systems of the ewa plains from Pu’uloa to Ho’ae’ae are sacred to our people and known to house some of our most sacred burials and our ancient limu. The desecration of these caves by use of injection wells will cause irreversible damage to the aina, iwi, Wai and limu.

There is no necessity for another wave pool especially in this time of a water crisis, as red hill contaminants continue to spread while we are in a water deficit. Using our drinking water to facilitate a wave pool is exploitation of our resources and completely frivolous. It is the mission of Na Kiai O Wai Ha to Protect wai on O'ahu Maintaining harmonious balance of all ecosystems, from ma uka to ma kai.

We are currently in a lawsuit against Honokea development as the environmental impacts of the Honokea development and its accessories will not only significantly desecrate our natural cave systems of ancient limu and wai by sending the used water into the cave system after use. Also, Have substantial adverse effect on air or water quality or ambient noise levels; Have a substantial adverse effect on the economic welfare, social welfare, or cultural practices of the community and State; A substantial degradation of environmental quality; Require substantial energy consumption or emit substantial greenhouse gases; Have a substantial adverse effect on or be likely to suffer damage by being located in an environmentally sensitive area such as a flood plain, tsunami zone, sea level rise exposure area, beach, erosion-prone area, geologically hazardous land, estuary, fresh water, or coastal waters; Have a substantial adverse effect on a rare, threatened, or endangered species, or its habitat and Conflict with the State's environmental policies or long-term environmental goals established by law as stated in our case. With the already imploding sewage system within ewa, all residents from the people to the natural resources will be impacted by increasing the volume of population and pollution by the Honokea Surf Village development.

With all the undeniable adverse environmental impacts stated in our case it is prevalent that if no actions are taken, the ewa ahupua’a will continue to implode and create an unhygienic and unstable environment for our community and natural resources/ ecosystems. Our ancient limu and cave systems with burials amongst will cease to exist. Our cultural practice is our birthright and should be protected and perpetuated at all costs from further desecration. We the undersigned believe in the protection and perpetuation from further desecration of the cultural practices of the land, iwi and wai of our people. We are demanding that they stop the Honokea Surf Village to protect our limu, wai, and iwi please support, sign and share our petition.
