My name is Enrique Resendez CEO of Ventus Global Logistics, and I’ve seen firsthand how North American cooperation can strengthen local economies and foster cultural exchange. Growing up in the Mexico / US border, our businesses and community markets thrived thanks to the smooth flow of goods, services, and ideas across borders with Mexico and Canada.

Why This Matters Across North America

1. Families Pay More in the U.S. and Beyond
   The 25% tariff on Mexican imports increases prices on essential products like fresh produce, textiles, and auto parts. Not only does it affect American consumers who rely on these goods, but it also disrupts supply chains that Canadians share with the U.S. and Mexico. When costs rise for businesses that ship and trade across borders, everyday people in all three countries feel the pinch.
2. Small Businesses Face Regional Uncertainty
   Local retailers and restaurant owners in the U.S. have already seen price hikes. But this doesn’t stop at the southern border: many Canadian businesses source goods and materials from the U.S. that are, in turn, sourced from or processed in Mexico. Tariffs on Mexican components can quickly raise prices on Canadian shelves. This interconnectedness means small businesses throughout the continent face undue risk.

   Under the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), our three countries pledged to collaborate for mutual economic benefit.    2. Transparent Review Process: Future trade measures that affect North America’s economic cooperation should involve all USMCA partners—Mexico, Canada, and the United States—for balanced and transparent discussions.
   3. Long-Term, Cooperative Solutions: Rather than resorting to unilateral tariffs, the U.S. should work with Canada and Mexico to address concerns about border security and economic fairness without punishing everyday families and small businesses across the continent.
