Petition updateStop the gross mismanagement of muskoxen in rural Alaska

Finally gaining some traction

Hi everyone - I wanted to share some recent updates with you, and I also have another call to action.

First, I have heard back from Senator Dan Sullivan's office. I was able to schedule a time to chat with Erin Johnson who works for Senator Sullivan and focuses on federal wildlife issues. They recognized that the federal government needs to be involved for any real changes to happen. It was a productive discussion, and I will continue to follow up with them.

I had hoped to hear back from Senator Murkowski's office, as she spends a fair amount of time in Nome, but I have not heard anything yet. I work as full-time college faculty, so once the semester is over I'll have more time to be able to compile an addendum to our original dossier and send that out as a follow-up. I have also not heard back from Rep. Peltola's office.

While the ADF&G has been rather silent publically, it was recently announced that they had made significant changes to the bag limits for muskoxen in the area immediately surrounding Nome. You can find the Nome Nugget Article about it here. I encourage you to read it.

Now for my call to action. Actually, make that "calls". First, we can always use more signatures of support. We need another 150 signatures to hit our next big milestone of 1500.

Second, if you live in Alaska, please write to our senators and our representative and ask them to look into this issue. I requested that Senator Sullivan come to Nome to meet with people in person, and the more requests they get the more likely that is to happen. You can also request that Senator Murkowski do the same, and it would be beneficial to reach out to Rep. Peltola as well.

You can reach Senator Dan Sullivan's office here.

You can reach Senator Lisa Murkowski's office here.

You can reach Representative Mary Sattler Peltola's office here.

Thank you, everyone, for your support. As we are moving into summer, I am worried we are going to end up with another season of fear of leaving our own homes, and I don't want what happened to Curtis to happen to someone else or their children.
