The Issue

We did it!!!!!!

We did it yall!

Van Zandt County is pushing a massive reservoir project, using illegal ordinances and land grabs while pretending it's about “future water needs.”

But our county has no Groundwater Conservation District — and no transparency.

This is about money, control, and silencing landowners.

Sign to demand a halt, repeal the illegal ordinances, and protect our water.

While we’re being told a new Grand Saline Creek Reservoir is for “future water needs,” here’s what they’re not telling us:

Our aquifers are already under threat.

Neighboring counties are approving private commercial wells that could drain billions of gallons of groundwater — and Van Zandt has NO Groundwater Conservation District to stop them.

So why a reservoir?

Because when the aquifers are depleted, whoever controls the reservoir controls the future of water in this county.

Reservoir = Profit. Control. Power.

These projects are often handed off to regional authorities or private investors who can later:

Sell the water

Control access

Spike prices

All while claiming it’s for “our benefit.”

🛑 It also opens the door to land grabs under eminent domain.

Land around reservoirs is often taken from private citizens, only to be resold to developers or used for lakeside luxury properties. This isn’t about conservation — it’s about consolidation.

It’s not about your grandkids — it’s about their bottom line.

And while they feed us distractions, remember:

Van Zandt County is receiving state grants for jails,

Hosting the world’s largest flea market monthly,

Sitting atop a natural well in Canton,

...but still claims to need a $100+ million reservoir?

No. This is a money project. A land seizure. A control tactic.

✊ We, the people, demand:

1. Full repeal of any local ordinance that conflicts with state law

2. A moratorium on the Grand Saline Creek Reservoir project

3. Public release of all project records, contracts, and communications

4. Protection of groundwater rights and establishment of a Groundwater Conservation District

5. An independent investigation into land targeting, devaluation, and forced displacement

📣 Sign this petition if you believe:

Our land and water should stay in the hands of the people

Public projects must serve the public, not investors

Illegal ordinances and secret deals must be overturned

And Van Zandt County deserves real transparency

We see it now. We feel it now. And soon, we will overturn all of it.

🚨 Think you're safe because you're not in Van Zandt County? Think again.

The proposed Grand Saline Creek Reservoir project isn’t just a local issue — it affects surrounding counties like Kaufman, Smith, Henderson, Rains, and Wood. Here's how:

💧 WATER COSTS: When water control shifts to state or private hands, regional rates can spike. Restaurants, farms, and homes all feel it.

🚜 LAND + TAXES: Infrastructure expansion = new tax burdens, even if you live just over the line.

🛣️ TRAFFIC + DEVELOPMENT: New roads, reroutes, and zoning changes impact local businesses, school commutes, and delivery routes.

🏛️ PRECEDENT: If they get away with this here, what's to stop similar land grabs elsewhere?

✅ If you care about land rights, water access, and regional transparency, please sign and share, even if you're outside Van Zandt

👉 Tag friends from nearby counties. Their signature matters just as much as ours. Let’s protect our region — together.
