Stop the Grand National race

The Issue

Every year, my heart breaks as I watch such majestic creatures lose their lives for the sake of entertainment and profit. These horses are pushed to their limits in the Grand National, a race notorious for its harsh and sometimes deadly conditions. Just recently, we have lost two more horses to this tragedy, and this cannot be allowed to continue.

The Grand National has a long and problematic history. With notoriously challenging fences and long distances, it is no surprise that horses are frequently injured or worse. Data shows that since 2000, over 30 horses have died at the Grand National festival, and countless others have suffered from non-fatal injuries. This is a distinct case of animal abuse where the profit-hungry voices overshadow the cries of these helpless animals.

People may argue that horse racing is a time-honored tradition, but at what cost? There are ways to honor traditions and enjoy the sport without senselessly endangering animal lives. Implementing stricter safety regulations, reducing the number of participants, and redesigning the racecourse could significantly mitigate the risks.

The glory of winning should not be bought with the lives of these noble creatures. Horses are sentient beings and deserve better than a fate decided by how fast they can jump over deadly hurdles.

Join me in calling for the immediate cessation of the Grand National race. We must embrace a future where human entertainment does not come at the expense of animal welfare. Sign this petition and urge the racing authorities to put an end to this inhumane spectacle once and for all.
