Stop the Forced Eviction of Senior Citizens from Keppel Sands Caravan Park

Stop the Forced Eviction of Senior Citizens from Keppel Sands Caravan Park
The issue
As a part of the Rockhampton community that I hold dear to my heart, it deeply pains me to see my beloved grandparents along with other respected seniors being unjustly evicted from their homes in the Keppel Sands Caravan Park. A place these seniors call home, a sanctuary, is being sternly snatched away from them by the local council in order to build a mini golf course and a pool. This not only questions the basic human rights these seniors are entitled to but also puts them at risk of becoming homeless.
Moreover, these planned council actions come at a hefty financial cost for my grandparents and others, with relocation expenses estimated to be over 7,000 AUD. Struggling to pay for medical bills and the rent, this added burden may prove insurmountable. Sadly, this is not just a heartrending account of my grandparents, but a pressing issue affecting many elderly citizens of the community.
In a country where tragically 1 in 6 seniors are experiencing homelessness (source: Australian Bureau of Statistics), it is both ethically and morally inexcusable to deliberately add to this somber statistic. We must come together as compassionate community members to address this glaring injustice.
We appeal to the conscience of the local council and demand alternatives to this course of action that don't involve the displacement of the most vulnerable among us. Let us prevent this – a place of comfort, a house full of memories from becoming another commercialized zone. We must act now, not only for my grandparents but for all the senior citizens of Keppel Sands Caravan Park.
Lend your support by signing this petition. Ensure that the seniors of our community retain their homes and their dignity. Let's bring justice where it's due and firmly say no to this forced eviction.
