Preston Farrior is one of the seven appointed Commissioners of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), which is slated to vote on August 13th on whether a black bear trophy hunt will be reinstated in Florida. Farrior is not an impartial steward of wildlife. He is a documented trophy hunter who has killed bears, zebras, and numerous other species for sport. This represents more than a conflict of interest. It is a direct breach of the public trust and ethical governance.
The FWC Commissioners, tasked with protecting Florida’s wildlife, should be guided by science and the public's interest, rather than personal or special interests, or a history of exploiting wildlife. Farrior’s participation in this decision undermines the very legitimacy of the process.
We urge all Floridians to stand up for transparency, accountability, and protection of our native wildlife.
