Dear All,

Cornwall Council has just announced its renewed intention to fell the three healthy street trees on Trelawney Road, Falmouth in mid to late November.

Despite repeated requests, the Council has not supplied verifiable evidence to justify this felling. Instead it has put out misleading statements and said that details cannot be given to the public due to reasons of confidentiality.

Indeed, it would seem that Cornwall Council has agreed an out of court settlement with a third party that includes the felling of the three trees, payment of a six figure sum to that third party and a confidentiality clause which prevents public scrutiny. This has not been refuted by Cornwall Council.

Stop the Chop!, a campaign group formed to question the Council on its reasons for felling, is instructing Paul Powlesland, the environmental barrister, to investigate this case. Paul has previously said that the Council’s failure to share information is “unhelpful and actually really quite outrageous”.
