Dear everyone,

I am really sorry to have to write this but I wanted to let you know that Cornwall Council and Cormac are going to carry out their proposals for the Trelawney Road, Falmouth trees which means that they will be chopping them down on Monday 17th March from 7.30am.

In order to show our respects to these beautiful, old trees we will be there at 7.30 to bear witness to their felling.

We have done everything that we can to make Cornwall Council reconsider its decision but to no avail. We heard on Friday, 14th at 17.30 that the Council will go ahead with the felling on Monday citing "legal obligations" but again providing no detail or evidence.

Our fundamental question has been why recommendations laid out in 2021 for one tree root to be pruned with a root barrier installed has changed to the felling of three otherwise healthy and mature lime trees in 2025?

We have received no answers to this. The decision on our Freedom of Information request received last week is that this information should be withheld from disclosure because, "the balance of public interest favours non disclosure of this information in all circumstances of the case at this time".

The Stop the Chop petition was closed with 1,912 signatures gathered in two weeks submitted to the Council. We have written to the CEO and many other County Councillors as well as parties involved from Cormac but received the final statement on Friday saying that the action would proceed on Monday.

We will continue to raise questions about Cornwall Council's consultation and decision making processes. We will seek to hold them to account in the name of transparent and open governance.

Thank you again for all your support.
