Hi everyone,
Your support for this petition to save the trees on Trelawney Road, Falmouth has been amazing! Thank you so very much ! It’s really important to keep up the momentum by sharing the link and speaking to people. Remember, the Council plan to fell on the 17th March 2025 according to a recently produced document.
This document also states that;
“Cornwall Council must take this action to overcome a future nuisance matter presented by the three southernmost trees”.
It doesn’t explain what that “future nuisance matter” is, but clearly shows that the trees do not pose an imminent risk.
Local residents have repeatedly pressed the Council for answers but have been given limited and evasive replies with recent emails going completely unanswered.
The community have felt shut out from the beginning. The Council state that they conducted an ‘informal consultation’ last year. This amounted to leafleting twelve houses in the immediate area and an online consultation which was hard to access as a Council representative acknowledged.
On 16th December 2024, local residents were horrified to hear chainsaws on Trelawney Road. They found that the road had not been closed properly and that Cormac were in the process of felling. Residents gathered under the trees for the rest of the day and halted the destruction.
We are trying to stop a repeat performance on the 17th March 2025. We want the Council to follow due process with regard to decision making, to be transparent. We do not want this to be a slippery slope to the events that happened in Sheffield and Plymouth where thousands of trees were cut down in secretive manoeuvres by the respective councils.
This is why your signature matters so much. It shows that you care about things that ultimately affect us all. Your voice should have the chance to be heard. Keep spreading the word. Let’s do everything we can to Stop the Chop.
Thank you!
