Petition updateStop the Proposed FAA NextGen Flights Over Culver CitySAMPLE LETTER TO YOUR SENATORS
Parents and Residents of Culver City
26 Jul 2017
-- URGENT: Please call and write your Senators requesting that they join with other Senators to amend the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Reauthorization Act and the NextGen Accountability Act. A sample letter (shared by residents of West Adams ) is below: Dear Senator (Feinstein/Harris), I am writing to ask that you join other Senators to seek amendments to Senate Bills S1405 (FAA Re-authorization) and S320 (NextGen Accountability) to reduce the direct impact of NextGen flight path changes on my community. The amendments should require noise mitigation in ALL CASES where implementation of NextGen resulted in significant noise problems, and not just those cases implemented without environmental assessment. (The amendments can be modeled on the McCain amendment to the Defense Authorization Act, passed in Dec. 2016, that requires noise mitigation in cases where NextGen was implemented without environmental review.) Such amendments will create a legal basis for requiring mitigation and post-implementation studies of the actual impact of NextGen flight paths on our quality of life. The amendments would make possible a win-win situation where the FAA solves some of its problems with the NextGen rollout, as well as the concerns and the immediate issues facing our communities under the new flight paths. Senators from Massachusetts, Maryland, Arizona, and other States are already involved in seeking solutions to NextGen noise issues. I ask that you please build on the existing bipartisan support to attach smart amendments to S1405 and S320 that will address the problems of the NextGen rollout that have greatly and directly impacted my community and communities across the country.
