NEXT STEP:
On Nov. 18th, the U.S. Senate unanimously agreed to an amendment filed by U.S. Senators John McCain (R-AZ) and Jeff Flake (R-AZ) to the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development (THUD) Appropriations Bill that would address community concerns about recent flight path changes at airports across the country. The amendment would ensure that airports and local communities will be involved in future flight path decisions. In addition, for communities that have been negatively impacted by recent flight path changes that have already been implemented, the amendment would create a process to review those changes and require the FAA to consult with airports to determine steps to mitigate the negative effects. The Senate may vote on final passage of the bill soon.
Please contact Senator Feinstein and Senator Boxer to urge them to use ALL their power, influence, and connections in Washington to pass this legislation that is a step in the right direction of reducing the FAA's power to make unilateral flight path decisions without community input. Please also contact Senator Feinstein and Senator Boxer to voice our concerns regarding:
1) The increased jet noise and pollution we are currently experiencing in Culver City and surrounding communities.
2) The proposed 2016 NextGen flight paths over Culver City and surrounding communities.
3) The likelihood of additional NextGen flight paths over Culver City and surrounding communities in 5, 10, and 20 years from now as demand for air travel increases.
4) The current and future construction/expansion work at LAX.
5) How the 4 events/actions above may be interrelated.
We need to FLOOD the offices of Senator Feinstein and Senator Boxer with our concerns so they know this issue is important to us here in Southern California and that they need to advocate for us in Washington.
