Stop The Execution of South Carolina Inmate Richard Bernard Moore

Stop The Execution of South Carolina Inmate Richard Bernard Moore
Why this petition matters

Richard Bernard Moore is a 57-year-old black male schedule to be executed by a firing squad on April 29th, 2022, in South Carolina. Mr. Moore was convicted for the 1999 Fatal Shooting of Convenience store clerk James Mahoney. During the trial, Mr. Moore's prosecutors stated that he had a cocaine addiction an entered the store to abstain from money to support his drug habit, not the intent to kill. There was no gun found with Mr. Moore during the fatality. However, Mr. Moore an Mr. Mahoney later got into a fight, resulting in Mr. Mahoney drawing a pistol out on Mr. Moore. Mr. Moore wrestled with taking the gun away to defend himself, which resulted in James Mahoney shooting Mr. Moore in the arm, which resulted in Mr. Moore fatally shooting store Clerk James Mahoney in the chest. While I believe that Mr. Richard Moore should be held accountable for his actions, I do not think that the use of death penalty is appropriate an absurdly heinous for the crime that was committed. Nor was the intention to kill Mr. Mahoney but also a measure of self-defense. Other options instead of Death Penalty if Mr. Moore is no longer seen as a threat to society should be the release of Mr. Moore with parole and treatment options that would treat an address his drug habit. I am asking that Mr. Richard Bernard Moore to be granted Clemency an for the dismissal of his execution scheduled for April 29th, 2022 6:00 pm. Mr. Moore has spent two decades in prison an has been given plenty of time to change, assess, an rethink his poor decisions. On behalf of myself, Mr. Richard Bernard Moore an those who signed this petition are asking to dismantle Mr. Moore's assigned execution an be granted clemency
