Homayoun Shabankareh is a 22-year-old Iranian artist, animal rights advocate, and reported participant in Iran’s January protests who now faces execution.

Iranian authorities have accused him of espionage, alleging that he sent images of areas affected by military strikes. Homayoun denies these allegations. Reports of prolonged solitary confinement and hunger strikes raise serious concerns about his treatment and the fairness of the proceedings against him.

We demand an immediate halt to his execution, the overturning of his death sentence, and a fair and transparent review of his case.

We urge the Iranian authorities to:

Immediately halt any execution and overturn Homayoun’s death sentence.
Ensure a fair and transparent judicial review, with independent legal representation and sufficient time to prepare his defense.
Protect him from torture and other ill-treatment, and ensure access to necessary medical care and regular family contact.

We also call on United Nations human rights mechanisms and governments worldwide to urgently raise his case with the Iranian authorities and seek concrete action to protect his life.
