Councilor Rogers has introduced an amendment to the proposed Upzoning for the Land use planning and zoning hearing on 1/14.
This seeks to reverse the potentially illegal addition that was made, forcibly rezoning nearly 68% of the city and restoring most R-1 single family zoning.
However this will NOT stop thousands from being rezoned along Mass Transit Corridors and targeted in historic neighborhoods. This will also not stop up Upzoning from happening in communities should a property opt-in.
This what we would still be getting:
▪There is still forced rezoning along transit corridors like Menaul, Montgomery, San Mateo, San Pedro and others allowing for higher property taxation, most impacting thousands of seniors and low income families.
▪ Upzoning can still happen in any community anywhere in the city
▪ Removal of community notice, input, and self-determination.
▪ No guarantees against private equity/developer price speculation.
▪ No mandated affordable housing of any kind and in no way addresses the needs of the unhoused
▪ No planning for water or environmental impacts.
▪ No measures against monopolization of apartment and rental ownership by major investment corporations.
▪ Removal of zoning restrictions like height and density that protect historic neighborhoods and sites like The Petroglyphs.
▪ No adoption of Anti-Displacement measures.
▪ No protection or resources for low-income tenants.
▪ No impact studies to determine racial inequity.
Removing the forced re-zoning City-Wide still does not change how this will forcefully rezone thousands of properties along transit Corridors and still remove community input and self-determination. It can still happen in anywhere city-wide as we.
We ask you, please say No to O-26-2 outright! Simply removing one small piece of the problem does NOT fix the larger issues this presents!
