The Issue

Imagine innocent and healthy animals, unexpectedly brought to a shelter, left to suffer. They sit, day in and day out, bearing the brunt of fear and pain that no creature should endure. Their days are filled with agony, and they are eventually killed, in gross defiance of all legislations that protect them. These animals, they have no voice. They cannot protest, they cannot declare their want to live. So today, I choose to be their voice.

In Miami-Dade County alone, approximately 20,000 animals, mostly otherwise healthy and adoptable, were euthanized in shelters in 2019 (source: American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals - ASPCA). This shocking statistic does not just represent numbers, but sentient beings who deserved a chance to live. As a society founded on principles of empathy and justice, can we continue to allow such indifference towards life?

Let's advocate for our voiceless friends. Let's ensure the implementation and strict adherence to no-kill policies in all shelters and push for effective spay/neuter programs that prevent the unchecked growth of the pet population. Together, we can put an end to the unnecessary euthanasia of healthy, adoptable animals in Miami's shelters.

Please, speak for those who cannot speak for themselves. Join me in making a difference. Sign this petition. Let's be the voice of the voiceless.
