STOP THE EUTHANASIA OF ELLIE!

The Issue

We, the employees, volunteers, and stakeholders of the Humane Society of Silicon Valley (HSSV) hereby petition HSSV leadership to cease the euthanasia of canine, “Ellie,” A#176388.

According to your website, HSSV’s Vision is “...a future in which no healthy or treatable animals entering animal shelters in California are euthanized.” We, the undersigned, believe Eliie is both healthy and treatable, thus HSSV would be ending her life prematurely.

In addition, with staff already suffering from or at risk of suffering from burnout, A decision to euthanize Ellie will cause a traumatic and stressful work environment including:

● Compassion fatigue
● Job burnout
● Primary and Secondary Trauma
● A lack of trust of System Failures and HSSV decision making processes
● Moral Distress
● Consequences of Grief and Loss
● An increase in employee resignations

The decision to euthanize Ellie has caused staff and volunteers to re-evaluate the work and passion they provide for the organization.

We respectfully request a HSSV to immediately halt Ellie’s euthanization and allow staff and other stakeholders to provide input for the best care for our beloved Ellie.

Signed,
HSSV Staff, Volunteers, and Community
