Signing the petition is just one way to help show Hancock County commissioners that the public does not approve of the proposed EQT (Mount Comfort Technology Campus) data center but we also need people to contact all of the officials involved in the process. Right now, the data center is in step 1 of the process, as seen in the graphic. But getting involved early and staying involved and up to date on the process is an important part of it all!
Here's who to contact and for what about:
County Commissioners: contact for voting no on the proposal (this will be the final step in the process), tell them about the harmful effects of data centers, how it will negatively effect the county, and how you want the county to be protected in the data center ordinance, and so on

County Council: contact these members for anything having to do with tax abatements. The county council will vote on if the data center receives an abatement should the data center seek one (they have said they will).

And finally, County Planner: Kayla is the county planner who is responsible for writing the data center ordinance. Contact her with what you want to see in it, how you want to be protected such as how far away a data center should be from a residential area, noise testing, pollution, etc She is also responsible for passing along correspondence to the planning commission who will make a recommendation to the commissioners.

There will be public hearings during the process and also some meetings like the regularly scheduled commissioners meetings allow for public comment at the end of them. These are all ways we can stay involved in the fight throughout the whole process!
