Living in the neighborhood of Woodhaven in McCordsville, Indiana, I've seen first-hand what makes our community so special. It's the serene streets where children can play safely, the close-knit relationships we cherish with our neighbors, and the unspoiled nature that surrounds us. But the peace of our neighborhood is now under threat. The proposed EQT data center (Mt Comfort Technology Center), set to be constructed less than a half mile away—just 2,400 feet from our homes—promises to bring noise, environmental impacts, and an industrial presence that threatens our way of life.

Data centers are notorious for their significant environmental footprint. According to studies, these facilities consume vast amounts of electricity and water, and can contribute to local pollution with their cooling systems and diesel-powered backup generators. Locally, the negative impacts could also include increased traffic from construction and maintenance, potential health risks from noise pollution, and a decrease in property values as industrial encroachment becomes evident.

It's crucial to consider alternative locations for the data center that would not disrupt residential areas, especially one as beloved and community-oriented as Woodhaven. There has to be more buffer zone between a data center and residential or community spaces where the inherent impacts of a data center would be far less disruptive. But also we urge the county to fully contemplate the burden and future risks that data centers in general pose to the citizens and environment of Hancock County.

We urge the Hancock County Commissioners to not approve the EQT Mt Comfort Technology Center. Let's work together to find a solution that supports our county without sacrificing our environment and the quality of life in our community. We have the power to preserve the integrity of our neighborhoods while supporting growth in a respectful and sustainable manner.
