Stop the energy park from destroying Carse of Gowrie
The Issue
I am deeply concerned about the proposed construction of a 500MW Energy Park, along with a 100MW Battery Energy Storage System, in the Carse of Gowrie, a region that holds immense sentimental and historical value for many of us. This development is planned across prime agricultural farmland stretching on both sides of the A90, encompassing areas between Errol, Inchture, and Rait. This land is not only a vital part of our community's identity but also integral for local agriculture, producing the crops we heavily rely on.
Carse of Gowrie is renowned for its lush, fertile landscape and has been providing quality agricultural produce for generations. Turning this area into an industrial energy park not only disregards the region's cultural heritage but eliminates a significant portion of farmland crucial for our food supply. In a world increasingly conscious of sustainable food production, sacrificing fertile land for industrial purposes seems counterintuitive and detrimental to our long-term environmental and food security goals.
A project of such magnitude will inevitably lead to soil degradation, habitat destruction for local wildlife, and a dramatic alteration of the scenic beauty cherished by residents and visitors alike. Alongside the environmental impact, there are genuine concerns about the socio-economic effects this will have on our community. The disruption to local farmers, possible lowering of property values, and the resultant impact on local businesses reliant on agricultural produce must be carefully considered.
While renewable energy is critical to addressing climate change, it must not come at the expense of our lands and livelihoods. We believe that there are more suitable locations that do not threaten agriculture and natural landscapes. We urge local authorities and planners to reconsider this project and engage in comprehensive consultations with local communities to find a more balanced solution.
By signing this petition, you're standing to protect our precious land from unnecessary industrialisation, ensuring that the heart of Carse of Gowrie remains vibrant and fruitful. We need crops, not watts. Sign now to safeguard our lands and heritage.
