Stop the Dominican Republic Government from Approving Hunting of Feral Dogs and Cats

The Issue

As a dedicated animal rescuer with Dogs and Cats of the Dominican Republic, I have witnessed firsthand the dire situation faced by countless feral dogs and cats on the island. For over a decade, our organization has tirelessly worked to provide essential services such as spay/neuter programs, emergency vet care, and free flea and tick medicines to these vulnerable animals. It is disheartening to see that despite our efforts, the government has failed to fulfill its own legislation in providing adequate support for these animals.

Recently, we were shocked to learn that the Dominican Republic Government is considering approving a proposal that would allow hunting of feral dogs and cats. This news has deeply disturbed us as it goes against all principles of compassion and responsible animal welfare. We cannot stand idly by while innocent lives are put at risk.

Hunting feral dogs and cats is not only cruel but also ineffective in addressing the root causes of their overpopulation. Instead of resorting to such drastic measures, we urge the government to focus on implementing comprehensive spay/neuter programs across the country. Numerous studies have shown that sterilization campaigns are highly effective in reducing stray populations without resorting to violence or cruelty.

We implore the Dominican Republic Government to prioritize animal welfare and invest in long-term solutions rather than resorting to hunting as a quick fix. By allocating resources towards comprehensive spay/neuter programs, education on responsible pet ownership, and enforcing existing legislation that mandates the provision of veterinary care, we can create a more compassionate society for both animals and humans.

Sign this petition today to urge the Dominican Republic Government to reject the proposal allowing hunting of feral dogs and cats. Together, let us protect these innocent lives and work towards a future where all animals are treated with kindness and respect.

Thank you for your support in safeguarding the welfare of feral dogs and cats in the Dominican Republic.
