The Issue

For over four decades, I have witnessed the unique charm and beauty of Vail, Arizona, where our community thrives on its rural, upscale nature, and tight-knit atmosphere. Since 1980, Vail has been a haven for those seeking a peaceful, close-knit community surrounded by nature. However, the proposed construction of a Dollar General at the intersection of Camino Loma Alta and Old Spanish Trail threatens to disrupt this balance and character that we have cherished for so long.

The introduction of a Dollar General store in this particular area is not just a mere inconvenience; it represents a significant shift in our community's identity. Within a mere mile of the proposed site are million-dollar homes, residences that symbolize the investment and commitment families have made to live in a serene, harmonious environment. Allowing a Dollar General store here would undermine the character and appeal of Vail, potentially diminishing property values and disrupting the ambiance of our community.

Furthermore, the implications of increased traffic, noise, and potential crime associated with the presence of such a store will directly impact the quality of life for residents. We have seen time and again how similar developments attract undesirable consequences that ripple through communities. Our children play in these neighborhoods, and our families cherish the quiet moments that life in Vail provides.

We understand the need for economic development and access to amenities, but this is not a suitable solution for our community. There are alternative locations better suited for commercial developments like Dollar General, closer to commercial zones or areas more accustomed to high-traffic stores. We urge the city planners and decision-makers to consider these alternatives seriously, avoiding the encroachment of ill-suited developments into our peaceful neighborhoods.

There is a clear need to preserve the unique character of Vail, Arizona, and to ensure that all developments align with the community’s values and lifestyle. I call upon my fellow residents and supporters of community-focused planning to stand with us in demanding the halt of the Dollar General construction at this sensitive location.

Please sign this petition to help preserve the integrity and character of our beloved Vail community. Together, we can make a difference and protect what truly makes Vail feel like home.
