STOP the development of Skyview Acres (Riggleman) farm into a subdivision

STOP the development of Skyview Acres (Riggleman) farm into a subdivision
The Issue
Update as of 2/18/25-
The developer has postponed their Board of Supervisor hearing to March 12 (their second postponement !) please attend if you can.
Please keep emailing our Board to express concerns on why we DO not want this rezoning approved.
PLEASE SEE UPDATE TO SEE NEW NEWS AS OF 01/17/25
Thank you so much for continuing to sign and share this petition! OUR FIGHT IS STILL GOING STRONG. Wednesday night the Planning commission voted to NOT recommend the rezoning of the 91 acres. While this is a small victory, the Board of Supervisors gets to make their very own decision on FEBRUARY 12th. We HAVE to keep the pressure on with emails and calls to the BOS expressing our opposition. PLEASE PLAN TO SHOW UP and fill seats 2/12/25, we will have small signs to hold stating you oppose.
The developer has updated the proposed 283 units to 303 units, and revised their proffer statement to remove the credit for 37 dedication. Their lawyers and representatives are perfecting their persuasive speeches. We've got a lot of work to do on our end.
If approved, this development (along with the other approved homes being built on our side of town) WILL PUT ALL THREE FEEDER SCHOOLS OVER CAPACITY. We oppose for our teachers and children.
Greenwood Fire Department is currently the SECOND BUSIEST dept in the entire county, if this is approved, this will undoubtedly add to their work load without any plan to expand. We oppose for our first responders.
We've all seen the drought warnings over the last three years, encouraging us to conserve water. If approved, this WILL IMPACT OUR water supply. We oppose to help keep our supply at a safe level.
Hundreds of new homes equals thousands of new trips on thru our family friendly neighborhoods and already congested Senseny Rd area. There is no deadline for 37 to be completed. We oppose for the safety of our families and neighbors.
There are exponential reasons our elected Board of Supervisors should NOT approve the rezoning, please reach out to our representatives via link below to express your concerns and ask they DENY the rezoning.

WHAT:
Planned new subdivision of homes on the farm at 2737 Senseny Rd (Skyview Acres/Riggleman Farm, located adjacent to Senseny Glen neighborhood) with 283 (NOW 303) single family and townhomes. The farm is CURRENTLY under contract with the developer. This will include a connector road between Canyon and the new development and possibly a connector road between Twin Lakes and the new development. There is also potential for a road from Rt 7 through the new development by the water treatment plant into this new development, ending on Senseny Rd.
WHEN:
Now! This is currently in the planning process and will be heard by the planning commission within months.
IMPACTS:
*MAJOR traffic increase on our very family friendly neighborhood roads, where we all enjoy walking, and feel safe letting our children play.
*Already overcrowded elementary, middle and high school
*Increased traffic on Senseny Road
*Already stressed medical community
*Loss of another farm in our “agricultural” county
*Lack of water supply
*Already stressed first responders
*Loss of native habitat
As a resident of Frederick County, VA and the Redbud District, we have seen dramatic development growth in our district. This continuous construction has led to increased traffic, overcrowding of our schools, and strained first responder resources. Our hospital ER, urgent cares and doctors offices have significantly long wait times often forcing residents to seek care outside of the Winchester area.
Adding yet another 283 (NOW 303) to the East end of Winchester will only add to the stress of an already overstressed county.
This latest proposed development at 2737 Senseny Rd will eliminate the last remaining farm before entering Clarke County. It will increase the traffic on Senseny Road. It will increase classroom sizes for elementary school children who are in an already overcrowded school. Admiral Byrd Middle School and Millbrook Highschool are already over capacity. Our community has experienced severe droughts for the past two years, halting approval of new water permits, and necessitating water bans.
If this subdivision is approved, there will be almost 1200 new homes within a five mile radius.
