The Issue

808 County road 121 Fenelon Falls

600 plus homes to be built.

I am a proud resident of Fenelon Falls, a small unique town in Kawartha Lakes, ON, Canada. Over the past few years, our community has witnessed two housing developments rise up and alter the landscape we hold dear. Now, another subdivision is being proposed on agricultural land that is home to an abundance of wildlife.

This land is not just soil and grass; it's a sanctuary for bears, moose, deer, coyotes and foxes. It's where nature thrives and where we find peace. The thought of more land being taken away from this environment so many of us cherish is heartbreaking.

The impact of such development extends beyond just altering our scenic views; it threatens local ecosystems and biodiversity. According to Statistics Canada (2016), urban sprawl contributes significantly to habitat loss – one of the leading threats to wildlife populations in Canada.

Moreover, transforming agricultural lands into residential areas can lead to long-term food security issues as per Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (2018). Our town depends on these lands for local produce which supports both our health and economy.

We must consider these impacts before allowing further development that could irreversibly change the character of Fenelon Falls. We urge local authorities to reconsider this proposed subdivision in favor of preserving our agricultural lands and maintaining the unique charm that defines Fenelon Falls.

Please sign this petition if you believe in protecting our town’s natural beauty for current residents like me who love it dearly - but also for future generations who deserve to experience its wonder too.
