WE WON!!!
Dear Neighbor,
We asked you to sign our petition to say you were against putting the detox-rehab facility at 800 W. Mission Rd. This facility would have been very close to 2000 children, adolescents and young adults.
1600 of you said that putting the facility at this location was a bad idea and it should be placed somewhere else.
GOOD NEWS!
We now have confirmation that the grant proposal by Interfaith Community Services has been denied by the state of California. So, at this time, the facility WILL NOT be built at this location so we are officially closing this petition.
As two of the criteria for approval of such a grant is that the facility has to be in an appropriate location AND the community it is being placed in supports it being placed there, your voice was heard by the grants review committee appointed by the state.
Know that your voice, standing with 1600 of your neighbors to protect the safety of the children of San Marcos, was heard loud and clear by the grants committee. The strength of 1600 people in just 3 weeks standing together in just 3 weeks to say “No” to this proposal was so important I can’t put it into words.
Just know that, without you all standing with us, we might not have prevented the facility from being constructed so near our schools. With you, we won!
Thank you so much for your support!
WHAT TO DO GOING FORWARD
First, know that we do not intend to be fooled a second time. We will keep a watchful eye on this situation to make sure it does not happen again. If it does, we will let you know what you can do to help.
Second, as far as what you can do, please consider this. Over the past several weeks we asked our elected officials in the city of San Marcos, the SMUSD governing board, our county supervisor, our state representative, our state senator and even our governor for help to stop this proposal. When we didn’t get that help from them in their elected capacity, we asked all of them to at least stand by us personally and sign our petition. To the best of my knowledge NONE of them have done that. These people are all elected officials. Some will run again for their current elected positions and some will try to run for new positions with more power and authority. Please let them know with your voices and your votes that not standing for the protection of the safety of the children of San Marcos even in a simple act of signing a petition is not acceptable to the people they represent.
Sincerely,
