Hi all,
We have one last chance to speak on behalf of the magnificent little forest in City of Fairfax! We have one last chance to preserve a wetlands that sings every Spring with what sounds like a chorus of 1,000 Spring Peepers!
We are very close to having the votes we need to re-align the George Snyder Trail. We have one-more-one-last chance to speak to the Council and Mayor to ask them to preserve the 600+ trees, the RPA , the wetlands and all the life they support.
We have over 2,200 signatures on our petition https://chng.it/CtDpKjmVW5 and we even made the evening news this past week, attached.
Below is the information for this Tuesday's Council Meeting. If you are local, please consider coming and speaking. If you cannot come to speak, please consider sending a quick note to our Mayor and City Council, addresses below!!

HELP PRESERVE OUR WOODLANDS
CITY COUNCIL MEETING
TUESDAY, DECEMBER 12TH, 7PM
City Hall Annex, Room 100, 10455 Armstrong Street
Please attend the City Council meeting this Tuesday to show your support for alternatives that use existing infrastructure for the George Snyder Trail (GST) to reduce costs and save our pristine woodlands for future generations.
The City's GST realignment project carves a 13-16 foot wide asphalt and boardwalk "road", with retaining walls and bridges over the creek, through the narrow strip of woods between Stafford Drive Park ball field and the Mosby Woods Condos, and into Stafford Park East (behind Cambridge Station Park), paralleling the creek, and into Ranger Road Park to Fairfax Boulevard. The estimated cost, not including maintenance, is $14-18 million.
Your neighbors and other City residents have proposed significantly lower-cost alternatives that use well-lighted, low-vehicular traffic roads that are safe for pedestrians, bicyclists, and wheelchair users. These alternatives include:
Painting Share-the-Road bicyclist icons on Fair Woods Parkway and Cardinal Road
Extending the existing GST from Cardinal Road and Draper Drive Park to Beech Street
Designating a bicycle lane on Beech Street
Installing safety measures on Draper Drive to slow vehicular traffic and provide safe passage to the east side of Draper Drive and across Fairfax Boulevard.
Google Maps now routes bicyclists on the same route as the proposed GST alternative outlined above. The City has already installed Bike Share docking stations on Fair Woods Parkway and at Draper Drive Park.
At the Council meeting, please speak in support of the alternatives. If you prefer not to speak, then come to the podium with a speaker. During the meeting, hold up a tree silhouette, available at the entrance to the meeting room.
If you cannot attend the meeting, please
Email city council members individually (Catherine.Read@fairfaxva.gov; Billy.Bates@fairfaxva.gov; Kate.DoyleFeingold@fairfaxva.gov; Jeff.Greenfield@fairfaxva.gov; So.Lim@fairfaxva.gov; Tom.Ross@fairfaxva.gov; Jon.Stehle@fairfaxva.gov)
Give a short statement of support to a neighbor who can read it on your behalf.
Help preserve our woodlands for future generations!
