Stop Solar Farms - Indiana started this petition to DeKalb County Commisioners and

Many solar companies are pushing to lease or buy THOUSANDS of acres throughout all of Northern Indiana. They have recently made it to our county of DeKalb.

You didn't know this? Neither do many other people. These companies slyly make their way into our own farmers' heads by offering significant sums of money for the land. They then push to get their contract signed, and BOOM. It's a done deal. These contracts are for forty-plus years, which will end up affecting generations to come. The neighbors are clueless about this atrocity until it is happening. They work hard to keep it a secret until they can start construction, so people don't step in. They know it is wrong.

These projects will span across 1600 acres in Dekalb county and possibly more. It will displace thousands of animals and increase roadkilled animals by who knows how much. They will take the beautiful trees, meadows, and streams and bulldoze them to the ground. Hundreds of years of history down the drain. These projects will affect the value of your own home if you live anywhere remotely close to these high-fenced solar fields.

We also need to consider the unknown.  Will this ground be farmable for future generations?  There are no long-term studies suggesting that this ground won't be ruined for years after these leases expire.

We need to stop this monstrosity before it's too late. Do you want miles and miles of six-foot barbed wire fences strung across land that animals and trees used to rule? Us either.

We need to band together and make a difference.

Please sign this petition and let our trusted County Commissioners know that this is not what the people of DeKalb County and generations that we don't even know yet want. Let's preserve the little piece of Indiana we call home.
