The home owners of Carrington at Wakefield Plantation are concerned about the safety and securety of their children and homes after the construction of an athletic field in their neighborhood. The neighborhood has one entrance into the community and children currently have the freedom to ride their bikes, skate boards and play basketball in the community without fear of traffic and strangers. The additional traffic of 30,000 cars in and out of this one entrance would pose a serious threat to the safety of the community. Having cars parked along the street of the entrance would hinder the access of emergency vehicles in the event a home was in need of a fire truck or medical transport. The YMCA has over 100 acres of property within a reasonable distance of this location that is not in a residential community which could be used as an alternative site. Residence of Carrington also questioned parents that attended Miracle League games in Cary, NC and none of these parents wanted an athletic field in the community where they live, so for the Miracle League and the YMCA to subject the families of Carrington to living conditions denounced by families they serve is alarming. Safety and security belongs to all families, not just to families served by the YMCA and the Miracle League.
