STOP THE DESECRATION OF MEMORIAL TO CIVIL WAR VETERANS

St Augustine residents and millions of visitors over the past 139-years have reflected on the simplicity of the sole memorial to 42 fallen confederate soldiers from our community.

The cenotaph in the Plaza de la Constitucion remembers the names of these Civil War veterans who lost their life in battle but whose remains never returned home for proper burial.  It was built with privately raised funds by the grieving family and their extended St Augustine family through the Ladies Memorial Association of Saint Augustine in 1879.

Four politicians, led by a corrupt process and self-serving city manager, are attacking the sanctity of our memorial and the memories of the city's first families who still reside here.

To those misguided officials, we ask that you stop the desecration of our history.  And, we demand that you fulfill your fiduciary responsibility to protect, preserve and defend the authentic historical artifacts that have been trusted to your care, or resign your office.
