Hi everyone,
Last week we were given assurances by the Home Office that Ken would be released. On Tuesday evening, the night before his bail hearing, the Home Office announced that they were reinstating his deportation notice and were opposed to granting him bail.
Yesterday the Home Office fought in opposition to granting Ken bail, and lost.
We are thrilled that Ken has now been released on bail, and he is now home, where he belongs. This is thanks to all of you. The public support for Ken was very important in getting him bail. We have taken the first step in securing Ken's safety by getting him released from the detention centre.
His judge said "the fact I have released you on bail is not an indication that you will forever more be allowed to stay in the United Kingdom". We will continue to fight until Ken is granted the asylum in the UK that he needs and deserves.
His fight to stay in the UK is ongoing, and it is clear that the Home Office still want to send him back to Kenya to face homophobic persecution and imprisonment. This cannot be right in this country in 2018.
Please continue to tweet your support for Ken and let the Home Secretary Sajid Javid @sajidjavid know that Ken should be granted asylum here.
Please also continue to share this petition. We are very nearly at 100,000 signatures, which would be an incredible milestone!
Finally, please continue to contribute whatever you can to his crowdfund. The money raised will go directly to covering his legal fees.
Many thanks for all of your support over these last two weeks. Without your support it's possible that he would not still be here.
Best wishes,
Andrew
