Petition updateStop the deportation of Ken MachariaURGENT: Ken's deportation notice reissued

Yesterday evening, we discovered that the Home Office has reissued Ken’s deportation notice. This is despite reassurances from his MP James Heappey that “he won’t be going anywhere for now”. Ken has a bail hearing later today, with his solicitor calling for his release, and the Home Office opposing bail - despite previous assurances.

It is clear that the intention of the Home Office was to issue false hope of Ken’s release to dampen the wide public support for his release. Over 96,000 people have now signed our petition to support Ken in staying in the UK where he is safe. Together, our voice can be incredibly powerful and life-changing for Ken. Please continue to share this petition and show the wide public support for Ken.

The Home Office is fully aware of Ken’s situation, and knows of the homophobic persecution and threat of imprisonment that he would face in Kenya. By reissuing Ken’s deportation notice, the Home Office and British Government are supporting the deportation of gay people to face persecution and imprisonment for their sexuality.

It is now urgent that you show your support for Ken, as he is due to be deported by the Home Office very soon.

Please tweet (@sajidjavid), use the hashtag #keepkenhome, and email The Home Secretary, Sajid Javid to show your disgust, and encourage him to overturn this abhorrent decision. Let him know that you are against the Home Office being complicit in deporting Ken to Kenya, where he would face homophobic persecution. The Home Secretary is able to overturn this immoral and unjust decision.

Your support for Ken can change his life, and your support is needed more than ever.

Many thanks,

Andrew
