The Issue

I was shocked to learn that PREIT is planning to sell Plymouth Meeting Mall to a developer who intends to demolish it. This is not just any mall – it's a vibrant community hub with so much to offer. If these plans proceed, we stand to lose Dave & Buster's, the iconic fountain, LEGOLAND Discovery Center, the beloved local church, the AMC Theatre, and, quite heartbreakingly, the carousel that so many of us have cherished.

The Plymouth Meeting Mall is far from a "dead mall." In recent years, PREIT has significantly revitalized it, introducing fantastic amenities like the Gym and the LEGOLAND, transforming it into a bustling center of activity for families and friends alike. We've seen it bloom and thrive – a testament to its value within our community.

The proposed demolition is a drastic move with consequences that will affect every single one of us. Plymouth Meeting Mall isn't just a shopping destination; it's a place where memories are forged, and life's special moments are celebrated. Its unique charm and community spaces are irreplaceable.

I myself have made many memories growing up at Plymouth Meeting Mall. I shopped at the Boscov's a lot as well as the Strawbridge & Clothier (later Macy's) and I frequently ate and played at the Dave & Buster's.

And all of this is without mentioning that the mall serves as a major transportation hub for SEPTA and Central Montgomery County. If demolished, it would require the shutting down of a vital public transportation connection hub and permanent relocation which could take years.

Instead of tearing it down, let's consider constructive alternatives. Could we introduce enhancements that would preserve its core structure while inviting new business opportunities? With creative solutions, we could maintain what's already working and continue to adapt to the needs of our evolving community.

I invite the residents of Plymouth Meeting and beyond to stand with me in opposing this demolition. By signing this petition, you're supporting the preservation of a vital community asset. Let's safeguard our beloved Plymouth Meeting Mall for future generations. Please sign and make your voice heard!
