The Unites States Postal Service is making changes to originating/outgoing mail processing NATIONWIDE.
The latest information released is in the story linked below....many rural areas will have their mail pickup DELAYED UNTIL THE NEXT MORNING!!! And the USPS is NOT informing customers of this!!!
Doing the math...it will take the changing of 200 facilities, each saving an average of $3million/yr, at least 75 years to make up the cost of the USPS' $40billion, 10-year plan!!!

Consolidation reviews
have been initiated for over 30
processing centers. 30 more have been
added to the list in Jan 2024!!
Eighteen of the
reviews have reported estimates
for cost savings and the number of
positions eliminated
On average, each consolidation will
eliminate about 24 jobs (22 craft
and 2 management) and save
about $3.5 million. At that rate, if
there are eventually 190 such
consolidations (that's the number
of LPCs in the plan), the total cost
savings would be about $665
million, with about 4,560 positions
eliminated.

This petition was started because our local customers were AGAINST the USPS' idea, BUT....
THIS IS A NATIONWIDE ISSUE!!!
MAIL DELIVERY TIMES HAVE ALREADY BEEN NEGATIVELY AFFECTED WHERE THE CHANGES HAVE TAKEN PLACE.
So far, three out of an
estimated 60 future
Regional Processing and
Distribution Centers
(RPDCs) are
partially up and running -
Richmond, VA; Charlotte
NC; and Atlanta, GA -
with nine more
scheduled to open next
year.

The following opinion is focused on our local area here in Columbia, MO, where this petition was started, however, THE SAME ISSUES COULD BE TRUE FOR ALL OTHER AREAS!!
HOW WILL THESE CHANGES AFFECT MAIL IN BALLOTS NEXT ELECTION YEAR???
The United States Postal Service wants to make changes regarding the processing of YOUR mail at the Columbia MO processing and distribution facility, specifically, they want to ship mail to St.Louis for processing.
There are already existing issues with mail that has gone through St Louis area processing. I.E. pieces taking over ten days to get to ILLINOIS, pieces arriving in St. Louis and getting sent to Springfield, MO, and MOST importantly, EXPRESS mail, from Columbia, MO, FAILING to be delivered within THIRTY hours to a destination IN THE SAME STATE!
Most recent issue...on Saturdays ALL mail is sent to St.Louis for processing, from Columbia, MO (2 hours away). A customer mailed a letter to Ashland, MO from Columbia, MO (a 15 minute drive) and it took over 10 days to be delivered!!!!!
Shipping mail to St. Louis could have a negative impact on delivery times. If there is an issue, for example, the spill in Hazelwood, MO, that had to be cleaned up before they could continue mail processing, tractor trailers of mail could sit for long periods of time before being processed. It is always better to NOT keep ALL your eggs in ONE basket...or process all the mail in one facility.
We will lose the Columbia, MO postmark issued at the COMO plant.
We will lose jobs.
