In the US we have the highest death rate for overdosing. In the last year there was a decline of 24% of deaths from overdosing. Part of this has to do with Narcan. This is a life saving drug that can be given to someone who is experiencing an overdose. In years past the government has spent $56 million dollars to give Narcan to first responders and give them proper training in how to use them. This department was about to cut the deaths from an overdose about 24% in just a year. Addiction experts are arguing that this will cut back the progress we’ve made towards overdose recovery. RFK Jr. has introduced this bill because this only treats symptoms of addiction and not the root cause. However, it’s not only a life saving drug for people who struggle from addiction but also for those struggling in mental health. These efforts that have been made over that last several years to combat overdoses could be gone in the blink of an eye.
