Stop the declawing of cats in Kansas!!
The Issue
Not only is declawing a cat cruel and depriving it of its animalistic nature, but it also has health defects for our furry friends! "Declawing can cause paw pain, back pain, infection, tissue necrosis (tissue death), and lameness. Removing claws changes the way a cat's foot meets the ground and can cause pain like wearing an uncomfortable pair of shoes. Improperly removed claws can regrow, causing nerve damage and bone spurs." - Humanesociety.org
To take this in perspective, when you get your nails trimmed at the nail salon you get them shortened or dulled, not removed. When a cat gets declawed it is practically like cutting your fingers off at the first knuckles instead of the nail. It is like amputating your cat's fingers with a painful procedure with pain that can last 2-3 weeks.
“Sensory and motor nerves in the cat’s paw are cut, damaged, and destroyed. Recovery from the surgery is a slow and painful process. The pain from declawing is life-long and normal cat behaviors are forever gone. This procedure keeps our cats from enjoying pain-free things such as walking, running, springing, climbing, and stretching. This crippling procedure keeps our cats from a life of fun energetic normal cat behavior.”
Declawing is illegal in a lot of familiar places such as Brazil, most of Canada, Israel, Finland, Sweden, Estonia, the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, and the UK all have outright bans on it. There are only a few bans on it in the US including Denver, along with several Californian cities, have bans on it as well. Bans are currently being considered in Michigan and New Jersey as well. But not Kansas.
There is no more need to let this painful amputation continue any longer, please help us and Save Our Cats.
