Friends of Downtown Menlo Park,
This evening - Tuesday Sept. 30 - City Council will decide whether to approve the Parkline proposal by Lane Partners to redevelop the 62-acre SRI site along Ravenswood Avenue.
The glass is half full.
The proposal includes 800 homes — with 250 for low-income residents. This is more affordable housing than originally proposed, and it’s a welcome addition that should reduce pressure to build on our downtown parking lots.
But the glass is half empty.
The plan also includes up to 1 million square feet of new office space, which will worsen Menlo Park’s jobs–housing imbalance. That’s land that could (and should) be used for more housing instead.
Council hasn’t seized the opportunity.
Right now, they seem more concerned with pleasing developers than with adding housing in reasonable locations.
What you can do:
Tell Council to make the most of the Parkline opportunity — require less office and more housing, especially affordable housing.
