We’ve spent a lot of time downtown, collecting signatures for the Save Downtown Menlo ballot measure - and we learned a couple of important things:
- For every person downtown who signs, there are four more who want to—but can’t—because they don’t live in Menlo Park. This shows just how many people rely on our downtown—and why access by car is so essential.
- Some of our most passionate supporters are the employees of downtown businesses. They’re deeply worried about losing their jobs if parking becomes too difficult. They regularly thank us for our efforts.
More than ever, we’re motivated to put this decision into the hands of the people—not just the City Council members who, according to the owner of recently closed Ristorante Carpaccio, “do not care” about small businesses.
We shouldn’t have to choose between housing and a thriving downtown. There are alternative sites throughout Menlo Park that make more sense—sites that don’t sacrifice our local businesses.
If you’re a Menlo Park voter and haven’t signed yet, here’s where to find our table this week, July 16-20:
Wednesday, 4-7pm - Outside Draeger’s
Thursday, 5-7pm - Outside Dutch Goose
Friday, 11am-1pm - Menalto - near Cafe Zoe
Saturday, 10am-1pm - BBC / Cafe Borrone plaza
Sunday, 10am-noon - Farmer’s Market
Want to play a more active role? Sign up here to help gather signatures. You don’t need to be a Menlo Park resident—you just need to care.
Thank you,
Save Downtown Menlo
