Friends of Menlo Park,
You know an issue has struck a chord when documents like this one – Mayor Burgess & MP’s Big Yellow Taxi – appear out of nowhere. (Or in this case, out of Iowa.)
Riffing on Joni Mitchell’s hit song, author Michael Giudicessi (an Iowa resident who regularly visits his family in Menlo Park) pays tribute to Mayor Charles Burgess for “putting up parking lots” in Menlo Park. He goes on to explain in detail, and with pictures, how we got our parking lots, and why we are at risk of losing them.
We thank Michael for taking the time to put together such an important, well-documented essay.
Meanwhile, our numbers continue to grow:
- Our petition has reached over 3,450 signers.
- People have sent 330+ public emails to City Council opposing the plan. Send yours to city.council@menlopark.gov
- Our Legal Defense GoFundMe has raised over $125,000. Thank you. Keep it coming!
And don’t forget - this Saturday, March 22, is the City Council Priority Setting Workshop. It’s from 10am-2pm in Council Chambers, where you can tell Council that finding housing alternatives to the parking lots, and supporting our business district generally, should be a top City priority.
How to participate in the meeting:
• Submit a written comment online up to one-hour before the meeting start time: city.council@menlopark.gov
• Attend in person in the City Council Chambers, 751 Laurel St.
• Access the meeting real-time online at: Zoom.us/join – Meeting ID 832 1285 7140
Thank you,
