

In the wild, female black bears (sows) typically produce litters every 2 years, though the exact interval depends on food availability, body condition, and whether they successfully raise their cubs!
Here’s a breakdown:
Age of first reproduction: Most females first breed around 3½ to 5 years old.
Litter size: Usually 2–3 cubs, though litters of 1 to 5 can occur.
Breeding cycle: Cubs are born in the den during winter (January–February). The mother raises them through spring and summer, and cubs usually stay with her for about 16–18 months.
Reproductive pause: Because cubs remain with their mother for over a year, she generally won’t breed again until they separate, which makes the interval between litters about every other year.
Exception: If cubs die early, a sow may breed again the following year. Conversely, in poor food years, she may delay breeding altogether.
So in short: under normal conditions, wild female black bears give birth roughly every two years!
So why is the FWC telling the general public there’s a population problem? A management issue? We’ll tell you why! Because they never consulted an expert that wasn’t paid off, that gave them 10 year old data, and was probably offered some kind of incentive to make the numbers look worse than they really are! In short, they lied!
When a grammar school student could find the true reproductive cycle of a female black bear in under 2 minutes there’s a problem with the FWC. That’s exactly what we did in this social experiment.
