The Issue

Growing up in Spartanburg, I've cherished every corner of this town. It's my home, the place where I was born and raised, filled with memories of a thriving community and untouched wilderness. Now, all of that is under threat with the proposed NorthMark data center project on Pine Street. This $2.8 billion venture was announced in April 2025, quietly tiptoeing through the approval process while attention was diverted to other contentious projects like the Tyger DC near Reidville and the Lightstone DC on Jones Road. One of the most alarming aspects of the NorthMark project is its water usage. The developers initially claimed they would share the same water permit as the old Kohler plant, promoting a "closed-loop" system. But there's little transparency on what this actually entails, and residents are left with understandable fears that our water resources will be strained beyond capacity. Moreover, the environmental impact is dire. The construction and operation of this data center threaten to drive away local wildlife, taint the quality of our air, and could potentially return contaminated water back to our community. This isn't just about a new development project—it's about preserving the soul of Spartanburg. Our town's very health and safety are at risk. The landscape, the wildlife, and the next generation of residents deserve better than to live in an industrial wasteland. Join me in standing up for Spartanburg. Let's demand transparency, insist on a comprehensive environmental review, and most importantly, put a halt to the NorthMark project on Pine Street. We need your support—sign this petition to keep our town clean, safe, and flourishing. Together, we can protect our community for future generations.
