The Issue

Our community of Harrison County is in turmoil. A data center is being proposed in our area, and most people do not want it. I am deeply concerned about the impact this project could have on our resources. Currently, we face water shortages, and the introduction of a large data center will only exacerbate this problem. How are we supposed to support the increased demand?

Moreover, it's unclear whether the data center will contribute to expanding our water and power infrastructure. The citizens of .Harrison County should not be burdened with the costs associated with a for-profit company's venture that could lead to further pollution, depletion of our precious water resources, and strain on our power grid. This strain could inevitably result in increased water and power rates, affecting all of us.

Studies have shown that data centers are significant consumers of water and electricity. According to a U.S. Department of Energy report, data centers can consume up to 3%-5% of all global electricity and are expected to increase their consumption by 4% year over year. Such consumption rates pose a severe risk to our already struggling resources. Additionally, The Center for Water Advocacy estimates that large data centers can use millions of gallons of water per day for cooling purposes alone.

We must take a stand for the health and sustainability of our community and environment. By allowing this data center to move forward, we risk jeopardizing our water supply, increasing pollution, and creating a domino effect of negative economic impacts on residents.

I urge the local government and relevant stakeholders to reassess this project critically. Let's prioritize our community's well-being and find sustainable alternatives that benefit everyone without compromising our environment or economy.
