The Issue

My daughter was born and raised in the serene landscape of Eastern Kentucky. As a parent, I dream of her growing up surrounded by the natural beauty and tranquility of our community. However, this dream is under threat due to plans for a new data center in our area. I'm reaching out because, like me, you value the clean air, peaceful surroundings, and pristine water sources that have defined our way of life here.

Data centers have a notorious track record for bringing adverse environmental consequences with them. Evidence from similar projects elsewhere shows alarming trends: they contribute to water depletion, increase air and noise pollution, and severely disrupt wildlife. Communities affected by these facilities have suffered compromised natural resources without seeing any significant long-term economic benefits. In fact, the job opportunities provided by data centers are often limited and not sustainable, leaving the local job market unchanged.

Eastern Kentucky is a unique and precious region that has managed to maintain its natural allure against industrial encroachment for generations. Allowing a data center to invade this space threatens to undermine everything we cherish about living here—our health, our environment, and our children's future.

While technological progress is inevitable, it should not come at such a high cost to our environment and community. We need sustainable growth solutions that preserve our natural resources, not industrial developments that deplete them. By stopping this data center from being built, we can ensure future generations have clean water to drink and the chance to experience the unique beauty of Eastern Kentucky unspoiled.
