The Issue

I am a proud resident of Lowell, Indiana, and I am running for Indiana State House District 11. Throughout my campaign, I have heard one message loud and clear from the people of Eagle Creek Township and the surrounding communities: we do not want a data center built by I65 off of U.S. 2 on Clay Street.

Our rural community is known for its farmland, natural beauty, quiet way of life, and strong sense of community. A data center threatens many of the things that make our area special. It could lead to increased traffic, noise, light pollution, higher water usage, and added strain on our electrical grid. The character of towns like Lowell and Hebron is built on agriculture and small town values, not large industrial developments.

The proposed site could also harm local wildlife habitats, wetlands, and nearby waterways. Studies from other rural communities have shown that large data centers can increase surface temperatures and place additional pressure on local resources and infrastructure. In some cases, communities have also faced higher costs to support the infrastructure needed for these projects.

Many residents feel that local leaders, such as our plan commission and County Council, are not listening to the concerns of the people they represent. That is why it is important for us to speak up. This is about more than protecting our environment. It is about preserving our way of life and making sure our voices are heard. The corporations behind these projects are focused on their own goals and profits, while our community will have to live with the long term impacts.

I encourage everyone in Eagle Creek Township and across Northwest Indiana to stand together in opposition to this project. This is our opportunity to show that we care about our community and want a say in decisions that affect our future.

Please sign this petition to show the County Council and Plan Commission that we oppose the proposed data center and expect our concerns to be taken seriously. Together, we can protect Eagle Creek Township and the surrounding communities from this unwanted development.
