Stop the data center construction in Emporia, KS
The Issue
For 77 years, I have called Emporia my home, and over these years, I've come to recognize just how special our environment and community are. Emporia is not just a dot on the map in Kansas; it's a vibrant town known for national events like the Unbound Gravel Race and the World Championships in Disc Golf. These events have put Emporia on the map and brought thousands of visitors eager to experience our unique blend of community spirit and natural beauty. It's our environment that makes such events memorable, attracting participants and spectators from across the nation.
However, the proposed data center threatens to disrupt everything we've come to cherish about Emporia. Consider the environmental cost of such a venture: the excessive water usage poses a grave threat, especially given that Kansas has faced recurrent droughts. Data centers are notorious for consuming vast quantities of water for cooling purposes, depleting our already strained water resources. Not to mention the noise pollution, a constant hum that would disrupt the serene tranquillity we've grown fond of.
Furthermore, the construction and operation of a data center would pose significant harm to local wildlife. Displacing species and destroying habitats are real and pressing concerns that cannot be ignored. The charm of Emporia lies in its symbiotic relationship with nature, and this development could irreparably harm this fragile balance.
We need to consider the long-term impacts on our beloved community, both environmentally and economically. The risks far outweigh the potential gains, and alternatives should be explored, perhaps smaller and environmentally considerate developments that align with conserving our town's special character.
Every voice counts in this fight to protect Emporia's future. By signing this petition, you're joining a collective effort to preserve the character, beauty, and environmental soundness of our cherished town. Please sign and help us make a difference before it's too late.
